Do your students need to do a presentation that will involve images or media? Planning to just grab stuff off Google?<\/p>\n<h1 style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lesleyelis.com\/elisblog\/files\/2015\/09\/stop-sign-clipart-z7TaM5XiA.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2321\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lesleyelis.com\/elisblog\/files\/2015\/09\/stop-sign-clipart-z7TaM5XiA-300x290.png\" alt=\"stop\" width=\"69\" height=\"62\" \/><\/a><\/h1>\n<p>Just because an image, video or even PDF is online, doesn\u2019t mean that you can use it or share it in your course. Much of this content is copyrighted and you shouldn\u2019t use it without permission from the owner. <strong>THOU SHALT NOT VIOLATE COPYRIGHT<\/strong>. \u201cBut what about fair use? I\u2019m using it for my course,\u201d you say. Fair use may cover your situation, but the guidelines can be tricky to navigate and you may want to consult your <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/research.lesley.edu\/imagecopyright\" target=\"_blank\">local librarian<\/a><\/strong> for assistance.<\/p>\n<p>Fortunately, there\u2019s another option\u2026 a free, completely legal option that doesn\u2019t run afoul of copyright. <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/creativecommons.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Creative Commons<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Creative Commons is an alternative to copyright that allows individuals to easily share their work with others and to specify how that work can be used. An author or artist can allow you to use and share their work as long as you acknowledge them, but not allow you to edit it. Other authors may allow you to remix and reuse as much as you wish as long as you aren\u2019t making money from it.
